Prof. Mohamed El-Aref El-Hawary, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Dalhousie University, visited our group from February to May 2016. During his visit, Prof. Hawary also offered the course ELEC 4010H, Introduction to Smart Electric Power Systems, at HKUST for the spring semester 2016.
Prof. Mohamed E. El-Hawary is an IEEE Life Fellow, a CAE Fellow and an EIC Fellow. He served on faculty at Memorial University of Newfoundland, COPPE at the Federal University of Rio de Janiero and the University of Alexandria. During the Spring Semester of 2016, he served HKUST as Visiting Professor. His work in computational solutions for economic operation of power systems including hydro-thermal systems, and applying computational intelligence techniques to power system operational problems is frequently referred to by users, and is documented in ten textbooks and research monographs and more than 300 research articles. His contributions to Smart Grid, Renewable Energy Engineering and related Standards for the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) are highly cited.
He is Founding Editor in Chief of IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Magazine, IEEE Press Power Engineering Series Editor, served as Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Press in 2006-2007, and is Founding Editor, Power Letters of PES. He is Associate Editor for the three major Electric Machines and Power Systems’ Journals, and is Editor, Electrical Power Engineering, McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science and Technology. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Engineers Canada and the Engineering Institute of Canada.
