Ms. Naeimeh Omidvar
Naeimeh received her B.S.c and M.S.c both in Communication Systems Engineering from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, in 2009 and 2011, respectively. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. studies in both the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Sharif University of Technology, under a double degree Ph.D. program. She is also involved in various industrial projects at Huawei-HKUST Joint Innovation Lab at HKUST.
Her research interests include green networking, data networking algorithms and protocols, cross-layer radio resource management for future networks, multi-timescale stochastic optimisations, and game theory.
Mr. Bo Sun
Bo Sun received his B.Sc degree from Honor School of the Harbin Institute of Technology in 2013. After that, he went to the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology to pursue his Ph.D. degree.
His current research interests include stochastic optimization, discrete optimization with their applications to smart grids.
Mr. Xiaoqi Tan
Xiaoqi Tan is currently a 4th year PhD. student in the ECE Department at HKUST. He received his B.E. degree from the Department of Information and Communication Engineering (first class honor), Xi’an Jiaotong University, Xi’an (the home of Terracotta Warriors), China, 2012. After that, he joined the research group of C2E in HKUST. From Oct. 2015 to April 2016, he was a visiting research fellow in School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS), Harvard University.
He is interested in all kinds of performance analysis and optimization problems for real world systems, in particular, power and energy systems, by applying techniques from queueing theory, stochastic modeling, and optimization.
His current research is particularly motivated by two important emerging components of smart grids, i.e., the battery energy storage and the electric vehicles. He belives that battery is expected to play a key role in future energy systems. Moreover, when batteries are moving around enabled by electric vehicles, two orginally separated large networks, i.e., the power network and the transportation network, are becoming increasingly correlated in their design and control, which yields many new challenges and requires a substantial research.
